Sprout to Bloom is officially back! After taking a hiatus to reflect on my goals and direction, I found myself continually drawn to the world of flowers and gardening. Although I spent time working at my previous job and tried a new part-time position, my passion for gardening never faded. Now, I am returning to Sprout to Bloom with a fresh perspective and new offerings.

With years of experience and knowledge in gardening, my aim is to empower you to create your own garden and transform your outdoor spaces. We don't often get to appreciate the blooms of a tulip tree unless it's after a windy day. These trees are popular in our neighborhood but tower over us at 60-80 ft. They serve as an important host plant for tiger swallowtail butterflies in our region. #poppyofinstagram #pollinators

Had myself another romp through the nursery today and snagged some traditional lilacs to fill out some space and create a bit of a wind break in our yard. I also purchased a smaller variety to put next to the porch so the beautiful fragrance can be enjoyed 💜

Home from the UK and there's more flowers here 😍🌞❤️

For the love of the bees and butterflies, please leave your yard debris a little longer. Actually a lot longer!!

It started this week - the constant hum of leaf blowers and teams of landscapers raking away any sign of fallen leaves. As satisfying as a good clean up job can be, please please please, leave your leaf litter. Hundreds of beneficial insects over-winter in curled leaves or in the ground, protected by the insulation of this dried plant material. Ever notice that there's less lightning bugs than there used to be?? It's because no one leaves their yard debris to overwinter!

Sometimes the need to weed those cool-season monsters (I see you hairy bittercress) does require moving the leaves around. This is better than discarding them. I simply hand rake the leaves out of my way, weed, then leave the leaves in the bed. Once the temps are consistently in the 50s at night (!!!), then it's safe to move the autumn leftovers to the compost pile but it's OK to leave them in the garden bed to break down naturally, too.

Inspired by my mom's own arrangement at home using mostly greens and seed heads, I made something focusing on foliage for this week's Monday delivery. The Cafe au Lait dahlias are starting and they're spectacular 😍

Inspired by my mom's own arrangement at home using mostly greens and seed heads, I made something focusing on foliage for this week's Monday delivery. The Cafe au Lait dahlias are starting and they're spectacular 😍

The patchwork plan garden layout worked pretty well this year. It's no secret that I'm not one to pull out a pen and paper while I'm planting, even if I spent all of the off season planning out the "perfect" layout. 😆 I've learned that once my hands are dirty, I'm in a flow space and work much better if I just do as I see it rather than reviewing notes and following directions.

This year, I decided to use this as a strength to not only hopefully increase the beauty of the cutting garden but also to increase diversity. This has increased pollinator visits and drastically reduced disease and pest pressure. @hellogreenthumbllc and I had coffee this morning and chatted about the benefits of a mixed bed layout for just this reason! I find the slightly different sun exposure across the rows has also allowed for a staggered bloom time for some species. #winwinwin in my book.

If you're in SE PA like me, hope you have your drip hoses out and running for those plants. Even the drought tolerant plants are looking a bit desperate in my gardens this week. Stay safe this weekend and save your garden work for the morning or evening. 🐝

What's in bloom right now in my garden Part 1

The beating drum this year tells me to find the right balance between my love for gardening and the business of growing. I got my act together in January and ordered trays of plugs from a local wholesaler and I'm never going back. 👏👏

They are healthy as can be and cut my workload in these months leading up to the heavy planting season.

I'm also trialing planting my growing areas as a beautiful, personal cut flower garden rather than farm style rows of one plant at a time. While I know this will lead to a little extra time taking steps during harvest, it will hopefully help spread out any insect, fungal or disease issues as well as increase the beauty factor, which is, of course, what makes me want to inspire you all to take a stroll through the garden in the first place.

I started seeds today and I'm going to be honest - I wasn't feeling it when getting started but once I got going, I was back into my zone.

This season is revealing lots of feelings and has me reassessing my larger priorities but I do know one thing - I love gardening and flowers. I've earned that #plantlady tag and don't plan to give it up any time soon🤣.

There are some changes coming this season though and it's not quite clear what my sales outlets will be but - no matter what comes during the warmer months of 2022, I will have flowers for sale or flowers for donation because starting seeds is believing in the future. Watch this space for updates as we march closer to spring 🌞

It's me and the cocktail table arrangement I made this morning from garden goodies grown and foraged right here in at my humble abode in #amblerpa

This is being donated to @thehighlandsmansion for their first annual holiday celebration and fundraising event!! 🎉 I stopped in and toured the decorations, which were stunning. I love me some historical properties and The Highlands is a local gem. So glad to collaborate again!

The arrangement is 100% foam free, held by #americangrown organic cranberries, and includes juniper, boxwood, eucalyptus, switch grasses, mountain mint, oak leaf hydrangea, dried strawflowers, sea oats and some dried seed heads. ANDDDD It does not need 💦 Variety is the #spiceoflife 😍
